I usually post this article the day Tax Season officially kicks off, however given our current world of remote working, hybrid learning, zoom fatigue and everything that comes along 1 year in to a pandemic, I thought I would share it a little bit earlier.
Tax Season or not, we are all a bit more on edge. It’s very easy to sit down in the morning to start your work day and get overwhelmed. My suggestion, take 5 minutes every morning to mentally de-clutter your mind. How? Sit at your desk and do the following before turning on your computer:
- Sit in a comfortable position at your desk
- Close your eyes
- Take a deep breath in to the count of 5
- Take a full exhale out to the count of 5
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for roughly 5 minutes
- Slowly open your eyes
- Begin your work day
Taking 5 minutes every morning may seem like a waste of your already precious time, however looking at the benefits listed below, this could be just what you need to calm your mind and attack your to do list:
- Creativity increases
- Happiness increases
- Intuition develops
- Gain clarity and peace of mind
- Problems become smaller
- Meditation/Deep Breathing sharpens the mind by increasing focus and expands the mind through relaxation
- A sharp mind without expansion causes tension, anger and frustration
- An expanded consciousness without sharpness can lead to lack of action/progress
- The balance of a sharp mind and an expanded consciousness brings perfection
Although I suggest this as a morning ritual, please note, it is one that can be used at any time when your day is starting to go off track, professionally or personally!
